Warner Bros. and MGM announced their reboot of Tomb Raider has an official release date: March 16, 2018. The studios are co-producing the film, which has Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) starring in the lead role of Lara Croft.
Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote the screenplay, and Roar Uthaug (whose Norweigan disaster film “The Wave” is now streaming on Netflix) is in the director’s chair. Angelina Jolie previously played Lara Croft in two live-action Tomb Raider movies, the last of which came out in 2003.
As you know, video game movies have historically been kinda bad but with Michael Fassbender’s Assassin’s Creed this year’ and Tomb Raider with the lovely and talented Vikander I say things just might change.
